Milano Torino (Mi-To) Cocktail

Milano Torino cocktail

The Milano Torino, better known as Mi-To, is a true Italian classic. It brings together the flavors of two cities: the bitterness of Milan and the sweet, spicy aromas of Turin. The cocktail is built on a perfect balance of Campari and vermouth, and is considered the “ancestor” of the Negroni. It is a clean, distinctive, yet simple drink. However, it is not meant to be rushed. It demands attention, and in return, it offers a rich experience.

Story

The Milano Torino cocktail dates back to the late 1860s. It is closely linked to Caffè Camparino in Milan, run by Campari’s founder, Gaspare Campari. The name speaks for itself. Campari comes from Milan, while the vermouth comes from Turin. Traditionally, bartenders use Punt e Mes or another sweet red vermouth. The meeting of these two cities in a single glass foreshadowed the triumph of Italian aperitivo culture.

Ingredients

45 ml Campari

45 ml sweet red vermouth

How to make the Milano Torino cocktail

Pour the Campari and vermouth into a mixing glass filled with ice. Stir thoroughly to chill the drink and blend the flavors. Strain into a glass filled with ice. The cocktail is distinctive yet understated—its preparation is as simple as the result is impressive.

Serving and Garnish

The Mi-To cocktail is served in an old-fashioned glass, preferably with a large ice cube. Of course, this can be substituted with smaller ice cubes. Pour the Campari and vermouth into a mixing glass filled with ice. Stir thoroughly to chill the drink and blend the flavors.

Calorie content

One serving of Milano Torino cocktail contains approximately 170–180 calories. Most of the calories come from the vermouth. However, Campari adds a small amount as well.
